John Duncan joined Wilderness in August of 2019 as the Golf Course Superintendent. Prior to joining Wilderness John served as the Golf Course Superintendent for the Pines course at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples. John was responsible for all cultural practices on the Pines course as well as the hiring, training and development of a 20-man crew. In addition, John played an integral part in the planning and development of annual golf course budgets and maintenance strategies and had extensive involvement in the execution of large golf course projects within the club’s strategic plan. This was John’s second stint at RP, having previously worked at RP for three years as an Assistant Superintendent beginning in September 2010. In between the two stints at RP, John worked as the Golf Course Superintendent at the Club at Mediterra in Naples and as Assistant Superintendent at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, FL. Lake Nona is home to 27 PGA and LPGA professionals. While at Mediterra, John gained extensive experience working with Platinum Paspallum turf and TifEagle Bermuda grass greens, which are the primary playing surfaces here at Wilderness. At Lake Nona, John was introduced to TifEagle turf, managing his crew through the reconstruction of the club’s TifEagle Bermuda grass greens. John is a 2010 graduate of Lake City Community College with an Associate of Science degree in Golf Course Operations. He holds a Class B certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America as well as required licenses and certifications for the application of fertilizers and pesticides in the state of Florida. He is also certified in best management practices for the enhancement of water quality on Florida golf courses. John enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Kristina, and is the loving owner of Jack, a longhaired dachshund.
