The Wilderness is ideally situated in the heart of Naples, just minutes from the Gulf’s pristine beaches, Old Naples shops, restaurants, medical facilities, shopping malls, and cultural institutions. The Goodlette-Frank Road location allows easy ingress and egress and convenient side-street access to 41.
Drive thru the front gate of The Wilderness and let the wonder in you take over. You’ll feel as though you’ve entered a nature preserve rather than a Country Club community limited to 300 very fortunate members. Amid stands of great oaks, maples, and cypress trees, white and blue herons, egrets, osprey, bald eagles, hawks, turkey vultures, wood storks, anhinga, ibis, pelicans and alligators grace the communities 12 lakes. Possums, raccoons, armadillos, otters and an occasional bobcat or fox nestle in the dense woods. For nature lovers, The Wilderness is an incomparable living habitat and a member of the Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary.
With planning and uncommon foresight, The Wilderness was built in the mid 1970’s to be a low-density, in harmony-with-nature community. The 19 three-story buildings and nine two-story buildings blend discreetly into the background, with each condo presenting a striking view of the world-class Arthur Hills golf course that winds its way through the property’s 200 forested acres.
Totally refurbished in 2004 with Arthur Hills commissioned to oversee its restoration, the golf course is considered by many the premiere golfing venue in Southwest Florida. At 6,652 yards from its championship tees, the course offers a complete examination of a player’s skills from the opening tee shot to the final negotiation of the deeply bunkered and mounded 18 green.
The course has a superb rhythm and flow. Most rounds are played in less than four hours. The nature sights one encounters along the way can be as memorable as a perfectly struck shot. For the memories of the less than perfectly executed shot, there is a practice range with a free, unlimited supply of range balls. The fully appointed Pro Shop is staffed by three PGA professionals, who arrange golf games, run weekly golf clinics, and provide individual lessons.
Dining in style is a Wilderness tradition. The Clubhouse dining room is the club’s social hub, featuring formal and informal dining, full bar service, a separate private dining room, and a dance floor for club and private member parties.
Member owned and controlled from its beginning, The Wilderness is an established community with a private and secure lifestyle ensured by an experienced, resident-elected Board of Directors. The Wilderness is first and foremost an embracing, inclusive community. Members feel a strong sense of place and belonging, of being a part of a tight-knit, caring community. Through golf and a wide variety of social activities centered around the Clubhouse and five swimming pools, members interact in a laid-back atmosphere, forming friendships for a lifetime. |
